I become a Humanist Funeral Celebrant because I had been to too many funerals which seemed to have very little to do with the person who had died. Of course, the religious ceremony is comforting to those who find the words meaningful – but often the man or woman whose life we were honouring was not such a person, and nor am I.
I thought there must be a better way to mark the end of the life of someone much-loved and respected. The British Humanist Association’s training met these needs, and I feel that it is an honour and privilege to help people arrange a fitting ceremony to mark the end of a life.
“Thank you so much for all your hard work. We were all very pleased with the way everything turned out. A good send off for a wonderful Dad.”

“Just a short note of thanks for the service you did for Dad last week. Having had the time to read your tribute to him again, you managed to encapsulate the man we all knew perfectly. It has been a week of tears but of laughter & wonderful memories as well. Thank you again for your wonderful & comforting words from Mum & the rest of the family.”

Humanists think that
This world and this life are all we have
We should try to live full and happy lives ourselves and, as part of this, make it easier for others to do the same
All situations and people deserve to be judged on their merits by standards of reason and humanity
Individuality and social co-operation are equally important.
